The sadness is that well that rises inside you
When all is said and done
When what was said wasn't done
And what was done needn't be said

The sadness is what keeps you whole
When worst comes to worst

When best comes to naught

The sadness is what paints your dreams
When your life's a nightmare
And your nightmares give life
To your narcotic dreams

The sadness is where you go at night
When you've places to go and people to see
And no feet to carry you
And no destination to meet

The sadness is what brings you alive
When you count your losses
And lose count somewhere in the clouds
Only to fall with the rain back to earth

The sadness is what tells you wrong
When the world gives you lemons
And you make lemonade

The sadness is the rainy day
The softly falling snow
The last goodbye
The last hello
The hand you no longer hold
The smile you no longer see

The sadness is the end
And the sadness is love.
